Souland AI ("Souland," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use our web application at souland.app (the "Service").
Souland is a zero-pressure, emotionally safe AI companion — a "Cyber Sanctuary" for the late-night hours. We take your privacy seriously because trust is the foundation of any sanctuary.
When you register an account, we collect your username and a hashed password. We do not store your password in plain text — it is salted and hashed using industry-standard bcrypt.
You may optionally bind an email address to your account for the conversation push-to-email feature. Your email address is used solely for delivering your own conversation history to you upon request, and for sending one-time verification codes. We will never send you marketing emails without your consent.
When you chat with our AI companions, your messages and the AI responses are processed in real-time. You can choose to auto-save conversations to your account or push them to your email. Conversation content is only stored when you explicitly enable the auto-save feature in your profile settings. We do not use your conversations to train AI models.
Our servers may log basic technical information such as IP addresses, browser type, and timestamps for security and rate-limiting purposes. We do not use tracking cookies, analytics scripts, or third-party advertising services. Souland is intentionally free of surveillance infrastructure.
We use the information we collect solely for the following purposes:
All user data is stored in a local SQLite database on our server. We implement reasonable security measures including password hashing (bcrypt), token-based authentication (JWT), and CAPTCHA verification to protect your account.
Email verification codes are stored in server memory with a 5-minute expiration and are never persisted to disk. SMTP credentials for sending emails are encrypted at rest.
However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Souland uses DeepSeek's API to generate AI responses. Your chat messages are sent to DeepSeek for processing. Please refer to DeepSeek's privacy policy for information on how they handle API data. We do not send any personally identifiable information (such as your username or email) to the AI provider.
We use Gmail's SMTP service to send verification codes and conversation push emails. Email delivery is subject to Google's privacy policies.

Souland is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
